A drum kit - also called a drum set, trap set (an abbreviation of the word "gadget") or simply drums - is a collection of drums, cymbals and other percussion instruments, which are mounted on stands to be played by a single player, with sticks in both hands and feet operating pedals that control the hi-hat cymbal and the beater for the bass drum.
A drum kit consists of a mix of drums (classically classified as membranophones, Hornbostel-Sachs high level 2 classification) and idiophones – most significantly cymbals, but may also include the wooden block and rattle (classified as Hornbostel -Sachs of high level rating 1). In the 2020s, some kits also include electronic instruments (Hornbostel-Sachs rating 53). Furthermore, they are used both hybrid kits (mixing acoustic instruments and electronic drums) and fully electronic kits.
